What bagless vacuum is the best for around $500?
Question:i live in australia so usa stores or brands might be different. should i get an upright or cannister/barrel type, i have floor boards and thick pile carpet. i only have about $500-600 to spend though. any suggestions?

i've never heard of dyson. we have had many vacuums over the years. have tried the $1000.00+ models and have learned to not bother with those anymore lol. currently we are using an upright bagless dirt devil and it works pretty darn good for the $300. we paid for it. the only thing I don't like about it is that it is very loud

Do you have access to Consumer Report? They have determined that the cost of a vacuum has nothing to do with cleaning ability. They have proven that if proper suction levels are used, the canister doesn't get more than 1/2 filled, and that if the vacuum, itself, is used correctly, there is no difference, no matter what the cost.
