Strange toilet filth?
Question:For the last month in my new apartment, I have cleaned my toilet every two to three days, however this strange dark brown substance keeps showing up around the bowl's water inlets and at the waterline. The substance comes off realativly easily with a bowl brush, however I'm getting tired of it reoccuring. I've checked the tank and didn't see any large build up of the substance. I was just wanting to know if anyone had a similar problem and what the resolution for it was.
Answers:
Ah, yes. In summer, the water's warmer, and that lets molds and fungus grow in an environment that's moist-to-wet.
It's tough to eradicate. One method involves pouring a quart of bleach into the water in the tank *and keeping the rubber float out of the water while it works*. (The bleach can weaken it.)
After a half hour, put on rubber gloves and scrub down the inside of the tank. Then flush.
In theory, the bleach will kill the mold or fungus source, so the perfect environment won't have anything to grow in it.
For a while.
I have the same problem, except mine is more orange or pink colored. It's just mildew. It's probably from the water system where you live. I find that putting the Clorox bleach tablets in the toilet tank really help. Once they are dissolved, I can always tell, because the ring around the toilet comes back almost immediately!!
call the lamdlord before it gets worse, there might be something wrong with a line somewhere.
Put one of the toilet cleaners in the tank (5000 flushes, blue boy, etc).Should work fine!.Hope this helps :)
