How do i get rid of automotive oilsmell in my hubbys clothes?

Question:My Husband is a mechanic and I can't seem to get rid of the smell of the oil and grease in his clothes even after washing. I used oxyclean, tide detergent, softener, dryer sheets and still..nothing. Still smells the same. Any suggestions?

When my husband worked in a restaurant as a cook he used to come home smelling of grease every day. I tried everything to get rid of the smell and nothing worked. I finally had read in a folk remedy book that if you add like 3/4 of a cup of apple cider vinegar to your load of laundry the smell will come out. I started out with 1/2 cup because I wasn't sure what it would do to my washer if anything. I slowly worked up to the 3/4 cup and on the more severe loads I added 1 cup to the load. Needless to say my husbands clothes started smelling clean once again.

I know what your thinking because I thought it also. No the clothes didn't smell like vinegar. They just smelled clean.

This also works on a dogs bed or blankets that a dog uses as a bed.

Don´t put his clothes in the drier, This will only keep the smell in his clothes, Best thing to do is to hang them outside in the fresh air, the smell will evaporate with the air
I dont know if this would help you or not, I used it on my husbands grease stained jeans, I took dawn dish soap and diluted it a smidge and washed them in that, they come pretty clean, I also iron everything, the starch has a fresh smell that permeates the fabric, that helps with the staining and smells that soak into his clothes also
I feel your pain! My hubby is a mechanic too.I use Ammonia in the wash! It gets the grease out and the garage smell out and they are so fresh and clean---Until he wears them in the shop again LOL.Hope this helps :)
PS I also put liquid fabric softener in them as well!
Try using Lestoil it works wonders on oil and will make the clothes smell better....
put in some coca cola. That is what I use to get the oil smell out of my fiances work clothes. it really works, but if the clothes are really dirty let it soak for a bit before restarting the cycle.
Presoak in Borax
I use Tide with Fabreeze on everything. I haven't noticed any smells. My husband is a mechanic also.
