How much should I charge for cleaning services?
Question:A lady I know wants me to clean her house once a week for 5 hours. I would be doing dishes, laundry, sweeping and washing the floors, and straightening up things. How much should I charge?
I am 20. I live in Maine. I don't have much experience cleaning, but obviously I clean my own house. What should I charge her?
Answers:
I used to pay a girl $65 for about 4 hours of cleaning, but she didn't do dishes or laundry. I'd say you can get at least $75 for the job. That's $15 an hour. Not too bad.
Call around and find what others are charging, and how busy they are. You shouldn't undersell them much, and if they are extremely busy, you probably should charge more.
As a general rule of thumb, if you can make X dollars an hour working for someone else, you need to make 2X dollars an hour in self-employment to make it worth your while. You have extra costs, such as paying *twice* as much for Social Security taxes, etc.
Well I live in Toronto Ontario. And I clean not only with a company but for a lady I know on the side as well. It's probably different in the States, but with the cleaning company I clean for I started at 10.00 an hour then I moved to 15.00 an hour. The lady I clean for on the side I asked her for 10.00 an hour.
I used to clean for her once every 2 weeks, then she changed her mind and wanted me once every week.
I would say it all depends on how well you can clean. I've had experience since I was 14. But I would probably charge 15 an hour.
