Is there something wrong with being consisdered a neat freak in today's society?

Question:I'm not saying I am obesessive complusive about a clean house, but I do like things picked up and in their places. I am not opposed to dusting, vaccuming and doing laundry and dishes on a daily basis. I have been in other people's homes and sometimes it is hard to even find a place to sit down because chairs are filled with "stuff." Am I crazy when I like to walk through my home and not be stepping on toys or dirt. I like to sanitize my countertops and have the floors free from dog hair. I even get snide remarks from my family when I talk about having to get home to clean the house. Like it is a sin to want to present a clean home. My house isn't a show place by any stretch, but I am not ashamed to have people drop by. I refer to my home as presenting a clean, lived in environment. I just like to take pride in my home, but seem to get belittled because of it. Don't people like to clean anymore or take pride in their homes??

Answers:
I am a lot like you. I enjoy coming home from work to cleanliness and tidiness.

I think it's an obsession when you don't want anyone to sit on your couch and muss the throw pillows or cringe when she tosses the magazine she was reading on the floor to walk to the kitchen to get a drink.

When we don't want people "living" in the home, then we've gone too far.

No, I think it is actually good that people are clean and like to keep things clean. At least your home is always presentable and welcoming to people.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with that!. In today's society, most of us are on the go and there simply isn't time to do house chores every day. I know that when I come home, usually the only energy I have left is used to cook, take a shower and go to bed to start my day all over again. But if you like to clean every day, more power to you! And the truth is, those who always have something to say are probably just mad that they don't do what you do. So keep it up!
