Try this tip when cleaning carpet stains: Apply a generous layer of baking soda or cornstarch to greasy spots and leave overnight. After vacuuming, the grease should be absorbed. If there is any residue or discoloration left behind, blot with vinegar until the stain is lifted. A dishwashing liquid or detergent specializing in removing grease will also remove carpet stains that are greasy(Dawn). Make a solution of half detergent and half water and spray directly onto the stain. Blot until the stain is removed. Blot again with a damp sponge to rinse.Good Luck! =)

Try diluting some Tide liquid detergent in hot water.Scrub the stain with a white rag,let dry,and repeat if needed.
Blot up as much as you can then use Resolve for carpets, that stuff take off an amazing amount of stains and spots.

try sugar soap from your hardware store
I take a small amount of Dawn dish liquid, blot it, then rinse it well let it dry, it does work

Rub the liquid in with your finger tips, don´t use a brush against the carpet , this only breaks the fibres, Next with a sponge and cold water remove the suds. Once your sure the suds have all been removed, lay a towel with a heavy object on top. Leave like this over night, this will help soak up any remaining water from the underside of your carpet . I would suggest you have your carpet steam cleaned at a later date, as sooner or later the water mark always reaches the surface
