I have moved in a house that has an old smell, any ideas of how to get it to smell like home?

Question:The house i Moved into just has that not lived in for awhile smell and i hate it PLEASE HELP

Answers:
We have the SAME problem. We just moved, and old owners had a dog. Guess what everything smells like? Their dog also peed on the carpet RIGHT before we moved in--after the walk through even.

1) Open up windows
2) Paint
3) Clean or replace carpets
4) CLEAN!
5) Line-dry everything you can--it'll give a fresh scent to the room
6) Don't use air fresheners--you'll just cover the scent
7) Live in a it! Go out and get sweaty. Bake some goodies.

you should buy the ferbreze(the fresness one, not the scented one) if you just want regular smell in the house. If yiou want a scented smell, then buy any kind of scented febreze that smells nice to you.
Open windows & doors & burn some nicely scented candles. I love the Apple Cinnamon scented candles by Glade) You'll want to wash your home room by room with a nice smelling cleaner, like Murphy's Oil Soap. Use an ammonia cleaner to remove stubborn grease & dirt areas. You can also spray Febreeze or Lysol (Linen Scent in white can) often. In your basement, if you have one, wash your floor down with hot Pine Sol water, then open any windows you may have down there.
If you can open all the windows to air the place out.. If it's carpeted buy a big bag or baking soda. Warehouse clubs have 12 lbs for under $5.. It's good for lots of other things as well. Sprinkle the carpets liberally and let it sit overnight.. Vacuum really well and that should take the odors out of the carpet... You can use the remaining in your laundry 1/3 c. with you reg. detergent freshens/deodorises and helps detergent work better.. You can put some in a sealed container with holes punched in the top to freshen your fridge/freezer..
I was just watching "Sell This House" and they suggested applying a fresh coat of paint to cover up odors that are "stuck" to the wall. However, this would take time.Good Luck!
First look for moth balls or anything else placed for pest control.
Next, have all carpets cleaned with a professional quality machine. (212 degrees F at least!)
Fabreeze works well, although there are bargain brands that are comparable.
A drop of vanilla extract on the light bulbs is awesome too. (Caution! This may lead to a perpetual case of the munchies. Experiment before applying everywhere.)
Check the attic and crawlspace for damp or otherwise unwanted conditions.
Scented candles are quit nice as well.

I think that will come close to covering the problem.
