I am one to make my own softener to save money, is there a great recipe for this?

Question:I want to make my own fabric softner to save money and help control allergies...i want a great recipe to do both

actually I picked up whats called a fabric ball at zellers. Through it in the dryer with your clothes works great. They look like a spikey blue ball about the size of a tennis ball. Think they cost me 7-8 dollars for two. Can be used thousands of times.
