Why do I get a horrible sulfur smell when soaking my laundry?

Question:Whenever I use the "soak" feature on my washing machine, which I often do due to having toddlers, I get a horrible sulfur smell that permeates the house. We're on city water, so it isn't a well. Our water tastes fine, and this is the only time I encounter the smell. Our water heater is new, so I seriously doubt it's the rod in that. I use liquid Tide. Any one know what's going on here?

Answers:
it's because you have a lot of sulfur in water. when you drink the water your not using as much as you are soaking clothes you need to add something to laundry water to drown out the smell...
