Help-sweat stained sportsbra! I have a white sportsbra, made of polyamid/nylon/elastane.?
Question:I work out appr. four times a week and there's usually a lot of sweat involved. My white bra is now all patchy with yellow sweat stains, help, what to do? Is it possible to bleach or dye an item made of synthetic fabrics? I usually wash it on 30 /40 degrees (celcius), but also sometimes by hand.Any good advice of how to get rid of the stains?
Answers:
I always throw my sports bras in with my normal laundry - It isn't a delicate like a normal bra. Put it in with your whites and bleach as normal. It may take a couple of washes, but the stains will fade. In the future, wash with bleach every time to prevent the stains from building up. Also - use warm water (I am a Fahrenheit person so have no clue if 30/40 Celsius is warm)
bleach it
i would say bleach it! you can always buy a new one if the stains dont come out
bleach will turn nylon yellow, as well as weaken the fabric. you may want to soak it in a mixture of vinegar and baking soda. that should help remove the stains.
nylon will not take dye either.
personally I would put it in 100% vinegar and let it soak overnight...and see how it comes out.
hope this helps.
I have to give this one to Belize! I was suprised to see so many people telling you to use bleach. Bleach will only make the problem worse and will yellow the nylon.
Vinegar and baking soda are the way to go.
The best thing I have ever found for getting and keeping synthetic whites bright is powdered dishwashing detergent. You can put your other synthetic whites in the washer with the detergent and just wash as you normally would. It does an unbelievable job and will not damage your clothing. The first time I tried this was on very sheer curtains over 20 years ago.
yes, you can definetly bleach an item with synthetic fibers! also try spray and wash dual power, you can try saline/ contacts solution, and also dishwashing soap is good. but if the stain doesn't come out the first wash, don't dry it! this will set the stain.
