is it going to get ruined?
Answers:
Bleach contains a chemical called sodium hypochlorite (Na-CL-OH). As you can see here it consists of things that are also present in pools, water being H2O and Sodium (Na) being present from natural salts that will deposit in the water from people, items, air, etc.
It is this property of chlorine that acutally sanitizes and disinfects and is often referred to as active or available chlorine.
That being said, when you go swimming at a public pool you are essentially swimming in a giant tank of bleach. However, the dilution of bleach is very very low some where along the lines of 200 ppm of available chlorine. The bleach used to do wash is about 30,000 ppm available chlorine, a 5% solution.
Because of the low dilution you will not get as much of a bleaching affect but will instead see some fading. The fading is also a result of other additives to the pools such as potash and other pH controlling chemicals.
Have fun swimming!
I often go swimming in my clothes... it will fade a bit but it wont ruin it as much as some people would say.
Jut wash your clothing as soona syou can after being exposed to chlorinated water.
Do not use chlorine bleach on colors thats for whites only.Any other color will turn white or have spots all over it.There are bleaches out there that is safe for colors.
If the pool is properly maintained it should be just fine. That being said it is very hard to say without doing a test on the water.
When I did pool work I saw some pools the had enough chlorine to turn all the clothes in the world white. Others had none and were just waiting to cause a skin infection.
Depending on the PH and alkalinity the chlorine will be more or less aggressive.
it will discoilor anything but white
Chlorine is similar to bleach - It will fade clothing. Swimming in a pool once will not harm your bra though - Repeated exposure will cause fading though.
The colors will fade a bit after repeated swimming, but you will not ruin it.
some times if you soak your dark clothing in a table spoon a salt to a sink full of water it will keep them from fading. it locks the color in try this before you go swimming .it usually works for me with dark jeans and shirts. i'm pretty sure if you just wear it in the pool its going to loose some color if you dont do this or at least wash it first. good luck and have fun swimming.
