How do you get burnt food out of a pot?

Question:I fell asleep with pasta on the stove (yeah I know it was a stupid thing, but I was really tired). Now that I have gotten the smell out of my house, I want to save the pot if I can because it was my Granny's. There was a black-burnt crust on the bottom of the pot, which I got out mostly of with a good soaking. How do I get the residual stuff out?

Answers:
Cover the bottom with water and put in a half cup of baking soda. Bring it to a boil then turn off the heat and let it soak.

SOS pads
HOT WATTER, SOME DISH SOAP, AND ADD 1 FALF A CUP VINIGAR! THAT WILL EAT THE GUNK FROM URE PAN DUE 2 THE ACDIC CONTENT IN THE VINIGAR. HAVE FUN BUDDY!
Brillo pad or sand paper. It'll take a while, but it is worth it. If that pan held up through burning food, you need to keep that forever. Probably revereware with the copper bottom. That stuff rocks.
try putting the pot on the stove with hot water and turn it on to bring to a boil.it will help finish breaking up the residue that is there.then scrub with a scrub pad...helps alot
Pour Clorox in it and let it sit overnight. Pour out the Clorox and then use steel wool or one of the brassy-looking scouring pads. It will come out for sure!
soak it in ivory dish soap and water over night and then scrub the rest off
If you let it soak awhile in water with baking soda, it should help, especially if the pot is stainless steel. You could use additional baking soda when you re-scrub the pot.
Good luck!
I use baking soda and vinager. Make a paste and scrub off the remainder of the food. It works real well on stainless steel.
POUR SOME BAKING SODA AND VINEGAR LET IF STAND FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTE'S.
If it is a satinless steel pan. Then put some wwashing powder and water in. Bring to the boil and your pan will be good as new.
