I have a comforter with a lot of different colors of dyes...?
Question:Will washing it mix the colors? If so, what can I do about it?
Answers:
It really depends on where it was made. A lot of items coming out of SE Asia use a vegetable based dye which will bleed when wet. To protect your comforter when laundering, add a Shout color catcher or Rit, which both make products that will "catch" the color bleeding off and keep it from depositing on fibers elsewhere. Also, add a cup of white vinegar into the rinse water. This helps set the dye and helps keep it from bleeding the next time you launder it.
mixed fabric colors shouldn't mix when washed. try washing in cold water or dry cleaning if worried about color mix.
If it says on the label you can machine wash-use cold water, and low temp in the dryer to dry it, or on an outside clothesline to air dry. If it says to dry clean only, that is the way to do it.
