What's the best way to clean carpet after tiny spills or accidents?
Question:I usually take a paper towel and scrub at it with soap, but then the carpet's just soapy and sometimes still stained. What's a better way?
Answers:
It's true that soap residue is difficult to rinse out of the carpet completely and will just attract dirt faster, so try to avoid using it full strength for spot cleaning. Instead, try this mixture, but be sure to test it first on a hidden area to make sure it won't change the color.
You will need:
Baking Soda
White Vinegar
Liquid soap (mild hand or dish soap)
Hydrogen Peroxide
Mix equal parts of vinegar and water, and work a small amount of the mixture into the stain using a clean white towel. Blot it well (you can use a baby diaper for this if you have one-it will soak up the liquid very efficiently!), and let dry. Once the area is dry, sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda over the spot. Mix together ¼ cup peroxide with ½ tsp liquid soap, then work this mixture over the dry baking soda, getting the paste down deep into the fibers. Blot again, and let dry. Vacuum to remove the residue. You may have to repeat this treatment on persistent stains. (Please don't be tempted to use a scrub brush for this treatment, because you risk splitting the carpet fibers if you work it too vigorously). The baking soda and vinegar will help remove any traces of odor as well.
Good luck!
do what u did but then use shaving cream to take soap and stain out
you may want to have it clean by a machine or use some goof off, best solution for spills and stains
Most people don't realize that when they spot clean their carpet they use products that can void the manufacturer's stain warranty. The reason is that they treat the carpet fiber with a teflon based product that is supposed to make it easier for you to clean up stains and spills. Most carpet cleaning products are detergent based and leave a residue that actually attracts dust in the air and dirt from your shoes and makes the carpet dirty as a result.
If your carpet is still under stain warranty, simply take a dampened terry towel and place it over the spill immediately. Hop on it with your body weight to draw the liquid from the backing on to the towel. If the stain has a solid element to it, scrape off as much as you can with a credit card, saturate the area with water, again hop on it with a dampened terry towel. If this method doesn't work, use a dry granule carpet cleaner like Capture because it won't void the warranty.
If your carpet is out of warranty, spot shot carpet cleaner or Folex Upholstery and Carpet cleaners are about the best commercial products for stain treating because they leave no residue. Although Nylac is one of the brands recommended by the carpet manufacturer's it is expensive and hard to find.
Resolve is better soap for spot-cleaning like that. If this happens a lot (children, dogs), you may want to get spot-lifters--it's like a dustbuster except that it is wet/dry and shoots soap on the floor and has a scrubbrush on the bottom to get stains out.
best way to clean a spill out of carpet..take a napkin, papertowel..place it over the stain, then get a iron plug it up till its hottt, and place it on the napkin, which is covering the stain, and the steamed iron will iron the stain nto the napkin. do this until the stain is completely erased from the carpet. i do it all the time it works like magic.
Basically you'll just iron the napkin till the stain is gone.
i like CAPTURE-spot eliminator
but you can only get it over the internet.

using soap on the carpet will leave residue and bring the stain back...then when u do steamclean it, it will just bubble and soap up. it will be worse
Depend´s on the stain really. I use my own hair shampoo to clean any little mark´s that pop . I don´t have much carpet in my home. But hair shampoo work´s well. just a small amount, the sponge with cold water. Once your sure the carpet is clean , lay a towel with a heavy object on top . This helps to dry up any remaining water from the underside of the carpet,. Leave like this over night , then dry with natural air. The problem with spot cleaning your carpet´s is, sooner or later the water marks reach the top. so it might be a good idea to have them steam cleaned
I wouldn't use soap on the carpet - or any commercial spray stuff either. Once you use soap, even if you rinse it really good the soap will still be there, and it becomes sticky - a magnet for other dirt. If I have a spill, I just blot up as much as possible with a dry paper towel or cloth, then spray a bit of vinegar + water mixture on it, then blot that dry. It doesn't leave a residue on the carpet, it removes stains & odor, and best of all it only stinks while it's wet. This works for just about any type of stain - you can do the same with ammonia (it works great on protein-based stains), unless you have pets because they could be confused and think your home has become a bathroom!
dont scrub it...just press down on it and soak up what ever is spilled. if you use soap and water use just alittle and barely wipe it DONT SCRUB you break down your carpet fibers that way and your carpet wont last doing that. there is a product on the market that i use but for some reason at this moment i cannot think of the name of it but i do know it is in a red can and it works great!!
absorb as much as possible with paper towels or towels. then use ammonia straight from the bottle and work the stain from the outside edge toward the center. be certain that after you have dampened your cleaning rag (an old washcloth works well) with the ammonia to close the bottle, as the fumes are strong.
As with all spills, cleaning at the time is the best way to prevent stains. The best, and I do mean the best is to own a high quality microfiber cloth, like the Norwex one, at 1/100th of a human hair, and with a tiny bit of water, or a spray bottle of water, they will lift just about every stain going. No mess from paper towel bits and no soapy residue, which by the way just leaves another mess to attract dirt. .Rinse the cloth and hang to dry for the next time.
