I just bought a top loading washer but I have a whole box of regular powder detergent. How much of it do I use

Question:Can you use regular powder soap instead of HE soap and if so how much do I use? Also what about liquid soap and fabric softner? How much of them.

Answers:
The problem with regular soap (liquid or powder) vs. HE is the regular soap produces a lot more suds than the HE variety. The excessive suds can stop your washer from draining properly. Basically all those suds can airlock your drain pump. If you must use the regular soap try using only about half or less of the amount you would normally use. As for the fabric softeners I don't think there is any difference. If you don't have an owners manual you should be able to look up your brand and model online. If the manufacturers website doesn't have the manual available they should have a customer service # to call for information. Hope this helps

You should be able to use the regular powder detergent. It should have written on the box how much to use. Just follow the directions.
I am curious ... what makes you think you would use any different amount regardless if the machine is a top load or a front load?

You are washing the same amount of clothing - correct?

When all else fails ... there are directions on the box.
I depends on the size of your load, your washer and the concentration of the detergent you have.
You should be able to use powder or liquid in a top loader just fine, put the detergent in the bottom before loading the cloths. Check the package/bottle of your detergent for quantities, but a good general rule would be to use about 1 cup of regular detergent (powder or liquid) for a full load. Half of that for concentrated detergent.
If you want to use bleach and or liquid softener, either use the dispensers (check your washers manual) or, for bleach add it to the water after it has filled and started moving. For softner you'll have to catch the last rinse cycle, but there is usually a dispenser for that.
My best advise: READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR WASHER AND ON YOUR PRODUCTS.
Always use HE detergent! No exceptions!
