How would one rid themselves of calcium stains on their hottub?
Question:We have drained our hottub, and are cleaning it before giving it to it's next owner. However, there is Calcium Buildup along the sides of the tub in certain spots. What are effective ways of getting rid of this build up??
Answers:
a light "acid wash". Be care full. If there is chlorine in the spa still it can be toxic! Long rubber kitchen gloves with a sponge and a bucket filled with equal parts Muriatic Acid (available where pool chemicals are sold) and water. I would add a little dish soap to keep the fumes down. A vapor mast a hardware store will help. Simply liberally sponge on solution to calcium and watch it bubble away. Rinse really well and done.
I like to use CLR or anything like that, I find it works well.....or you could use vinegar and let it sit till it dissolves.
Some Mr. Clean and lots of scrubbing. It really works.
CLR or Lime Away work well- so does white vinegar.
Since you tried CLR try the VINEGAR.
Any product that contains phosphoric acid. Wear gloves and eye protection. You may need to apply it more than once and do a little scrubbing.
Use the product
"CLR"
CLR, is a product manufactured by Jamie Industries of Lincolnwood, Ill.
CLR stands for "calcium, lime and rust" remover and is a handy household cleaner that can be used to remove calcium deposits in humidifiers, coffeepots, dishwashers, washing machines - almost anywhere that water sets and hard-water deposits collect.
It also removes rust stains from bathroom fixtures, porcelain, stucco, brick and concrete.
CLR is corrosive, and can etch the surface. Mix according to label directions, wear protective clothing and work in a well-ventilated area.
Use a stiff brush to work the mixture into the stained area. Immediately wash with lots of fresh water. Repeat the process if needed.
CLR is widely available where cleaning supplies are sold.
