If you run a dishwasher without soap on heavy-duty cycle, will the dishes still get clean?

Question:Just curious for those days you're out of soap and don't feel like going to the store.

Answers:
Yes and no. They will be cleaned as if you had rinsed them in the sink, but they may not be cleaned as far as germs goes (even with the super hot water). The soap also helps looses what's stuck on them, so you may have to run them thru twice to get everything off of them unless you do rinse them before running the cycle.

It depends on how much food or grease is stuck to them - no amount of hot water is going to clean off oily dishes. But I always keep some Borax around for stuff like this. It's a great multi-use powder and you can use it for anything from cleaning clothes to tubs and sinks to washing dishes.
You really should wait and use soap. I wouldn't waste the water if you aren't going to do it right. Drag yourself to the store and buy several boxes at once so you don't have to buy soap very often. Good luck!
I some times add a Very small amount of bleach to my diswasher if someone has a cold in the house. I would not do this if you have any pots that are calphlon or none-stick.
Clean them off real good before putting in dishwasher and run like you said and it should be OK.
Sure, just add a cup of vinegar on the bottom. =)
