How do I mask a rug stain?
Question:I got red hair dye on my carpet. Is there any way to dye it to the carpet color? I have to move out soon and its an apartment. I tried baking soda and vinegar when I first got it on and that made it much lighter, but its still a bit red.
Answers:
kat, try oxi clean. make it a paste and let it set for a few minutes. scrub it with a rag and dab the excess out with a dry towel.
QVC & HSN have all kinds of neutralizing dye and stain busters for sale. Look em up!
O.K., I know this will sound trite, but have you attempted to get the stain out using Oxywhite? Try it in an obscure place before trying it in the center of the carpet just to be sure it will not take all the color out, but 9 times out of 10, it has actually removed the stain in our carpets and hasn't hurt them in anyway. Don't ask me where the red color goes, it just goes, and anyway, that's the idea, right? Nothing to loose but the stain. Good luck ;)
If what you tried lightened it than just do more of it. I know I used to give up too soon when trying to get a stain out.
Use rite dye a little bit at a time. If the carpet is lighter than the red use strait bleach to get it out then dye the rug.
Try Folex. You can buy it at home depot and I think at target also. Its absolutely the best thing ever. My dog ate a pen on my brand new carpet. I tried everything, the carpet company recommended folex and it took a couple of days of getting it up and it all came up.
Any way you can patch it? Cut stained piece carefully and lift out, then cut the same size piece from back of the closet and glue back in. Make sure the grain of the carpet matches. Color will probably be brighter from closet, but doubt it will show if done carefully. Of course, it also depends on the size of the stain. Good Luck ... Maybe you'll just have to fess up to the landlord and throw yourself on his mercy ....
I've used peroxide on a gray carpet (light) and it worked.
