My area carpet stinks.?
Question:I left my area carpet outside for two days and it got rained on. I scrubbed it with hot soapy water and dried it and it stinks up the whole house. Any suggestions on what i can use or do to take the smell out.
I have a store bough carpet shampooer.
Answers:
You can toss some borax down on it or baking soda, leave it there to absorb the odor for a couple of hours and vacuum it up. You don't say whether the carpet is made out of synthetic or natural fiber though, so I can't tell you what to load up the shampoo machine with so you both get rid of the smell and don't damage the fiber. But, I suspect that if the carpet stayed wet for a few days what you are smelling is mold/mildew which borax will treat. I would check the backing to see whether there are dark discolored spots. If there are you have mildew/mold which the soap alone just won't kill. If that is the case, you do have a few options. Lysol and DampRid both make a spray for fabrics that will be safe to use on the rug no matter the fiber that will kill the mold or mildew. Or, you can make a paste of borax & H2O scrub it into the backing, let it dry and vacuum it up repeating the process on the fiber side to kill the spores.
throw it away.
just rent a cleaner thing n it will do it
fill your shampooer with vinegar instead of detergent and reclean the carpet.
It might not have been completly dry , wait for a nice hot day, wash again in normal detergent rinse it with your garden hose, to make sure all the soap is out. This should bring up nice and clean & without the smell of damp
