Help peserving ripped jeans (laundering)?
Question:My favorite American Eagle jeans have been worn, literally to shreds. I purchased them in perfect, solid condition& have worn/washed them to the point where they are now considered "hot" due to all the rips & tears. I love them this way too, but the fabric is now so extremely thin in places & I don't want them to tear much more than they already have. I'm now careful not to kneel or bend in the "tearing" direction, but what is the best way to LAUNDER them in order to preserve what I have left of my favorite jeans? PS: this style is long discontinued, so unfortunately, I can't just go get another pair...

You can use a product like Fray Check or Stop Fray. Put it on the inside of the jeans where they are thin and it will prevent more tearing and fraying. You can find this at craft stores. I have used Aileen's Stop Fray (spell?) for years and it works great - even on knees! Just be sure to use it on the inside of your jeans and wait at least 24 hours before washing.
Wash them in cold water on the delicate cycle with Woolite or something similar and then hang dry them.
If after you use a liquid softener and then air dry them and they feel stiff, put them in the dryer by themself and tumble on low or no heat for five minutes. It will soften them up a bit!
I'd hand wash in cold water, then "spin" out the water using your washing machine as a centrifuge. To dry, stay away from the dryer; drape them over a drying rack instead.
