How do you get rid of rubber smell on sneakers?

How do you make a shirt smell less like a shirt, or perhaps a blade of grass less like nature... you can't.
Sneakers are MADE OF RUBBER.
You could probably cover up the scent of rubber with a fragrance of some sort, but you will have to reapply it regularly to keep the rubber out.
I suggest wearing them for a few weeks and they will begin to smell like sweaty feet. That should take the rubber smell right out... try the fragrance spray idea though, I think it may work! Just don't try anything too strong, and don't go wasting your Chanel no. 5.
soap won't do it. Take a steak knife and cut the soles off, that should do it.
soak it with waterproofer. That will seal the smell in and you won't smell it anymore.
