If it is water base you can use a damp cloth. If it is enamel or urithane you will need to use acetone. Try a spot on the bottom of the sofa first to see if it does any damage. Acetone is that powerful smelling brain-desolving acid smell that is in fingernail polish remover or you can just go buy a can of acetone at Home Depot, but don't breath it.
