Help! Melted Plastic!?
Question:Please help! I accidentially melted part of a plastic spoon on my glass top stove. I can't get it off. Is there anything I can try without hurting the stovetop anymore?
Answers:
My glasstop stove came with a razor. Apply light heat with a hairdryer or with the stove itself, but be careful not to ignite the plastic or burn yourself. Then scrape. Finish off by cleaning the stove with your glasstop cleaner so any residue doesn't burn off and stink.
You should be able to scrape it off with a razor. If that doesn't work, put a LITTLE heat to it, the scrape it off.
You could try reheating the element (take care, go slow) to bring the material back to a liquid state and attempt to pull/scrape it off with a combination of cardboard and paper towels, then you could see if there was actual pitting or damage to the cooktop itself. If you use a razor scraper, make sure the surface is wet...I don't recommend this tho.
There is also a product called Hot Iron Cleaner (another brand: Iron Off) that I've used to remove melted plastic bag from a cooktop. The surface needs to be hot when you use the cleaner. No abrasives, no bad smell.
why were u melting a spoon?
