What do I clean my hardwood floors with that won't make it feel STICKY?
Question:I am moving into a townhouse with hardwood floors throughout. I went over to clean it tonight and used Orange Glo Hardwood floor polish and cleaner. You're supposed to put it directly on the floor. I walked around with bare feet afterwards and it's nasty and sticky! What should I clean it with so it feels nice and smooth? I can't have stickiness! Ick!
Answers:
first use a dry mop to remove any dust and dirt. then use a oil soap to clean the floor. allow to dry. then use a paste wax and a buffer. smooth as silk and no stickiness
I use the swiffer wet jet cleaner on my wood floors and am very very happy with the results! I've never had a sticky problem, nor have I had that scummy filmy problem some cleaners use.
I have heard from professionals that plain cider vinegar and water is the best for hardwood floors.
hotwater witha spash of vinegar works wonders, and spells fresh afterwards.
I haven't tried it myself but my mom used to use Murphy's Oil Soap on her wood and it wasn't sticky afterwards.
Warm water an vinegar solution...yes a home made douche will clean them well. Also, for a good clean floor Murphy's hard wood cleaner with warm water and a damp mop will put a shine on it
There are a lot of people complaining the use of Orange Glo on their hardfloors. I remember my grandma cursing the product and even shouting at Orange Glo's Hotline for how messy their product.
If you call their Hotline number, they would advised you to get an amonia-based cleaner to get rid of Orange Glo. However, this never always works. My Granma resorted to calling a professional to get rid of the streaky Orange Glo coatings.

I use white vinegar and water.Wring your mop out good while using.
I was cleaning my wood floor earlier today. I like Murphy's Oil.
It goes on smoothly and does a good job of cleaning.
I agree dry clean the floor first.
The big problem with hardwood floors is they trap dust on surface. We just use Spray and wipe household cleaner, and mop over with damp mop. This is really just the best thing. Polish just stickies up. As you say-Yuk!
Maybe your feet are sticky and its not the floor? Check to see if you have a sweat gland issue. If not.
1. Stop using orange glow - it is toxic and will leave residue.
2. Don't clean your hardwood floors every week - that can cause a build up of the product you are using
3.Invest in a microfiber mop
4.Use Bona-kemi environmentally safe waterbased hardwood floor cleaner or a few drops of murphy's oil soap on a biweeekly basis
5.When mopping, do not over-wet the wop, and use a dry mop cover to dry it and remove any excess product.
