Figure it this way. Everything in your life should be beautiful or efficient. These things are neither. They also are taking up valuable space that you pay for in your mortgage.

Add to all of this the emotional cost. You know how you feel right now...imagine how you will feel if these things are not in your life to be concerned about any more. How much is that worth to you?

You can join a free cycle group in your community and offer them or exchange them for things that you need. As for the car...yes you can parts it out and get money but do you want to spend that part of your life timewise? Call a junk yard and sell the car as is to them or if it really doesn't have much value, call them to come get it.

You deserve decent running lawn mowers and AC units and cars, not skeletons of their former selves.

The book "It's all to much " by Peter Walsh got me through that dilemma. My house is no longer cluttered after applying ideas from that book to my own home situation.
As i've found, once you get rid of things by putting an ad in the paper for free stuff or call a local handyman or junk yard, You will be able to get more motivated. Once things are gone, you'll have more room, and less to clean. Turning the t.v. off and the radio on also helps me with less distractions. Good luck!:>)
If they are broken and you haven't time to repair or tinker with them, haul them off for scrap metal, to the recycling center, post them online through freecycle, and let someone else pick them up and deal with them.

A cluttered house and yard are a sign of a cluttered mind. Holding on to all the broken THINGS in life will only make you feel overwhelmed and helpless. The real value in the broken items is the relief you will feel when you come home and they are no longer cluttering your space and draining your energy.

Remember it's just STUFF.

As far as motivation, choose 1 area to start in. A closet, tool shed, living room, whatever. Put on your favorite music turn up the volume and begin throwing away all the THINGS you don't like, are broken, doesn't fit, etc. Come back to that area the next day and see how you feel.

You will be amazed how your motivation, energy and general attitude will improve when you declutter your world.

When all the broken things you are holding on to are gone you have room for fresh new ideas and a more positive outlook.
When i was younger my mom had that situation we lived in an older home n well she never really wanted to do anythting i guess since it was depression so me hating that she was a pack rat i sai mom ill help u re do this dump so what we did was took down all dull curtains n put on new one that make the house more alive .Then i told old stuff we dont want n not in use lets put it in this body bag n we can give it 2 Juanita(our neighbor) n when she goes to mexico shell give it to her fam.
