Question:I am buying a vacuum for the first time by myself..I have a lot of questions...
Where do I start? Where should I shop for an excellent vacuum? Wal-mart? What should I look for in a good vacuum? How much should it cost? What's the best brand? How do I know if the vacuum will last a long time?

I clean houses & offices for over 20 years. I have used every brand on the market. Eureka is good. Hoover too. Now days I am using a simplicity. It is durable and it has attachment built in the sweeper and it is not that heavy. Also it has a good filtering system. You will pay more for a simplicity but it is worth the money. Simplicity's are only sold in janitorial supply store. Where I live we have a place called Guarantee Vaccum and that is where I got my simplicity.
well i do know a few things about vacuumes, dont buy one from a door to door sellsmen, the Dyson brand seems to be just as good for a fraction of the price, most Dyson vacumes have accesories for funiture and other fun things, like to vacume your curtins and the tops of celing fans, Dyson has 2 air filters and a cup that you empty so you don't have to deal with the messy bags, There a numorous modles of the Dyson vacuum, the box usually sepcifies the best qualities, i know there is one for a pet home, that the filters really help with the pet dander, Dyson vacuums usually run between $500 and $800 if you want a vacuum to last this is what i segest, just make sure that you send in the registaration when you first get it, another good thing is that they usually come mostly assembled so that is not an issue either.
well are you getting one for just carpets? or just tile etc. an upright is good for carpets but i recommend you getting a canister vacume its multi functional to say the least does everything ... but do not buy the cheapest, get 1 that runs around 150 and up walmart has a ge one that is excellent.you can look on line at consumer reports to find the rated one's and go from there...
After many years I have my favorite. I have owned rainbow, hoover, dirt devil, Kenmore, and bissell. I was most pleased with the bissell. Rather cheap compared to the others and I had less problems with it than the others. They also are a easy company to work with if you need a replacement part. I enjoy the bissell, I have the power trak now. I upgraded after owning the first Bissell . I got the trak because of all the bells and whistles. I just upgraded never had a problem with the other one other than it had no extras.
