How do you use vinegar to set colors?

Question:My daughter's ball uniform has been washed several times already, and yet when I try to wash them with her ball socks, the socks turn pink. I am able to get them back to white (without bleach), but it is a pain in the butt.

Answers:
Try to put the socks in a basin with lukewarm water, laundry soap and some vinegar for an hour. I tried this once and it works.

Hi, usually when we set colors, it is with both vinegar and salt. We usually "cook" the fabric with the dye, vinegar and salt all together before you wash them. I'd imagine that you can take the red or pink part of her uniform, run a small load in your washing machine with the hottest water you can put in it, add a cup of vinegar and a cup of salt, and let it sit on the soaking cycle for a couple of hours. Then wash as normal and the colors should be permanently set.
Wash the uniform with a cup of salt in the washer on cold water. It will set the color.

I set all of my blacks on the first washing to hold the color.
I have done this in the past for swimsuits I hope it helps.
I use a solution of 3 cups vinegar to 5 cups cold water and allow the garment to soak about 20 minutes then I rinse in cold water until the smell has gone. let dry and by the time you wash it the color should not fade or bleed, it's the chlorine in our water that bleeds and fades the color. Vinegar on dry garments helps to prevent it from happening.
I really don't know if vinegar works very well. I do know that SC Johnson makes a product called Shout Color Catcher, It looks like a dryer softener sheet. You just add one to your wash and it works GREAT! They have a web site scjohnson.com
wash your hand and put abig finger in agreen color and plz don't put it in your mouse
I just read last night that a cup of cream of tartar will leave your whites whiter than white. I'll try it next time I do laundry.
Try any of these other suggestions BUT make sure to ALWAYS have the uniform turned inside out!!..
although it is now too late for this pair of socks, in future sort out your wash into piles of whites, coloureds, fluffy, dirty work clothes etc., and you should have no more problems. However, when you wash a coloured item for the first time you should always put some salt in the water and this will "set" the colour. Good luck
All you do is prewash it in vinegar. When the prewash cycle is up, do your normal washing routine.
there is a thing that is called a dye magnet, it works good
Wash all in cold water. The color will not bleed on whites and will also not shrink. Shouldn't fade if you use a cold water formula washing powder. Tide is great!! You could also sepearte the socks from the uniform. If you wash in cold water, pre treat the socks seperately, then wash all together seperately. You could also save on your hot water bill with the use of cold water!
Well if you do not put eggs in your pocket you are pretty much set all you need to do is buy the pocket handbook called"how to use vinegar to set colors" you can find in your nearest mc donalds i believe

Your welcome
i've never heard about vinegar, we use cold water to limit colors running
i always used to "Sweet Soap" its a word that the old people would use, take you ar bar of soap, they always used "Dial Regular Scented Soap" take the soap and rub on the part that is messed up then throw it in the wash and wash with cold,it has always helped out streak colors back to normal.try this and hopefully it works for you, like it would work for us.don't forget to put washing powers in the washing machine also.
