How do get the smell of smoke out of an afghan I bought at a thrift shop?

Question:This is a crocheted afghan.I've washed it twice, and it still smells.I've used oxi-clean,and extra dryer sheets. What do I need to do?

Answers:
You might try Febreeze Laundry Odor Eliminator. I used it to get rid of smoke odor out of our clothes after we had a fire several years ago. It may take 2 washings because of it being an afghan, but it should work.

Spray it with Febreeze.
wash it with white vinager about 1/4th cup..it usually will take smells out...hope it helps
add some plain white vinegar to the rinse cycle this will remove any smells it might have and it will remove all the lint and make it nice and fluffy..
Try laying or hanging it outside for a day or two! (or more if need be) There's something about the fresh air that's done the trick for me before!
the vinegar helps. So does lemon peels tied up in cheesecloth and tossed in the wash with it.
