Cutlery/Flatware in a dishwasher - which way should they point?
Question:
Answers:
When the handles are down, that gives the dirty end more space to spread out so water and soap can circulate better. If you pack the eating ends down, they'll be all crammed together and won't get as clean. However, most people point sharp knives down for fear of cutting themselves while loading or unloading other dishes.
i think that they should face upward because i feel it would get cleaner that way...
Eating end up as food sometimes goes into the bottom off the silverware basket.
The handle of the knives should point up. The handle of the forks and spoons should point down.
If the cutlery has wood handles, the caustic dishwasher detergent will cause them to deteriorate in a short time, so you should wash those by hand.
I put all of it with the handles up. That way, I never touch the eating surface after they're clean. Also, I don't put more than 2 spoons in each section because they tend to stick (spoon) together.
point the knives down so you don't get cut but spoons and forks should point up for better cleaning.
they have to point up. when the water and the old food runs off of the silverware you want the ends of the silverware that you eat off of to be more clean then the handle.
