Are there any "Clean Sweep" type shows that go to Rochester, NY?

Question:I'm desperately in need of professional cleaning help. And I don't mean a maid because they won't clean up, they just vacuum and wash stuff...if you have something on the floor, they will vacuum around it. I don't have a nasty house...it's actually clean...but my basement and garage are seriously trashed with clutter! Mainly laundry in the basement, and one room of seriously disorganized boxes. (and spiders!) My garage just has stuff...we could get the car in...barely. With rearranging, however, we wouldn't have a problem...but there's still a lot of stuff. Most of those shows go to places in California. Anything in my area?

You don't need a TV show! I know exactly how you feel tho! Go to flylady.net. This is the best cure for clutter. It has helped me soooooo much. There are thousands of members to this site so you know your not alone. She has tons of great tips but it can be overwhelming to get started. The one tip that helped me out the most is to set a timer for 15 min each hour. For those 15 min you declutter. Then you take a break or do something else. Then you can go bach the next hour and declutter some more. When you break it down in small installments it makes it seem like less of a job. I've been a member for 4 months now and I am only at 50% of my goal. Its a process but she makes it fun. Good luck.

I haven't seen one come out this way...but nothing says you need a television show to do it. Just take the idea from TV...and enforce it on yourself/selves. I pretty much did it in my apt when I moved to a smaller place..and just started going through the needs vs the wants..and what "crap"...I've been keeping around because I picked up the pack rat habit from my mom. If you are more interested in getting the cool free stuff...that's harder lol...but you can always get a friend or neighbor to play the voice of reason as far as getting rid of things.and instead of doing two rooms over two days...do one room at a time..I think you'll find once you get started..and done with the first room...the rest will get easier..the hard part...is letting that first batch of stuff go.
I've often thought our house needs the same thing but since there isn't a show in my area either (and I'm not entirely sure I'd want the nation to see my mess) I had to get going and do it myself. It was hard to get started (and I'm not done yet). I started small with my own clothes. The best thing that has helped me was to picture the way I want my house to look and the person I want to be. Then I ruthlessly and painfully got rid of anything that I hadn't worn in the last 3 months, anything that was the wrong size and any shoes that were not in my current rotation. It was a small start but I felt a lot better after I did it. When I sat and thought about the stuff I got rid of, how long I had owned it and what it represented about me and my life and goals, it was a lot easier to toss the stuff. Godd luck. Our house is a work in progress!
