Try mixing a couple of drops of any essential oil you like and mix it with bicarb soda sprinkle around affected area leave for 1/2 hr then vacuum
There is a product in the laundry section of the grocery made by "Arm and Hammer" called Pet Smart. It contains baking soda. Read directions. Just sprinkle on the carpet--wait a while and vacuum. Also Fabreeze--a spray might help.
Arm & Hammer make a powder that you put on the carpet & then vacuum up. I'd put the powder on the carpet &, while that was sitting there doing it's thing, spray some Febreeze on the upholstry that smells. BEFORE you put Febreeze on the fabric, test it on a small part on the back of the furniture (it can stain some fabrics - you don't want your Mum ticked for that, too).
To keep the smell down, you'll need to air out the dog's bedding every few days & vacuum frequently.
Best of luck to you!
If it is urine- soak up as much as you can. I use the spot bot(Made by Bissell). Use either their cleaner with machine or I like Resolve. I even use Resolve to spray on carpet, furniture. The best way to keep down doggie odor is to have a clean Healthy dog (not one who has a yeast or bacterial infection on his skin). A bath about once a month for most dogs is fine. If you need to wash your dog more than once monthly- use soap free shampoo.
What you need is a product that will truly get rid of the odor not mask it. You need one that is enzyme based. I use a product called "Simple Solution". I get it at Petco and it is a shampoo but I can also use a very, very small amount in a spray bottle and use it for the areas my 2 dogs like to hang out the most when I think I start to notice a odor. I also used this product while training our youngest dog. A dog will "mark" or pick a favorite spot in your home as his own and keep going there to do his thing. Even if you clean it or you can't see it, the enzymes are there and that is part of why they keep going back to the same spot. This product will removes that ability and gets rid of the odor and the spots for good. I am not endorsing just this one brand because there are other ones as well. The big thing is to look for a product that destroys enzymes. After, you do this...Then do the Frebreze, or carpet fresh stuff after your carpet dries. This product can be used on furniture, drapes, tile floors,,,,and I have used it on other spots also. I hope this helps. Best of Luck!
Would just like to endorse what Tami B said. We have two quite smelly dogs and use Simple Solution whenever we have a problem. When people begin to notice that our car is a bit doggy, for instance, we spray the interior with Simple Solution and leave it until it smells fresh again. Actually, it smells quite reasonable even before the enzymes have finished their work because Simple Solution has a pleasant (if a bit strong) vanilla smell. Highly recommended.
Have your carpet professionally cleaned by a company like Sears. They use an enzyme that breaks down smells that household cleaners cant touch. My carpet looked old and flat...when they were dont I swore someone installed brand new carpet in my house and it smelled great! It costs about $200 for the whole house or like $75 for like 2 rooms.
rent a carpet steamer. and some couch covers can be removed and washed in he washer on the gentlest cycle there is. dry them on the lowest setting the dryer has. you can also put down arm and hammer carpet deodorizer powder .. this does work. trust me i know! bath your dog often. i found through research..that dawn antibacterial dish detergent (in bath)work for the odors and helps to improve the dogs skin and coat.
I use a homemade Febreeze and it works GREAT for dog smells. Take
2 Cups warm water
2 Tablespoons of Baking Soda
1/4 Cup Scented Liquid Fabric Softener (Any scent is fine, I personally like the "Rose and Vanilla" best.)
Mix these ingredients together in a spray bottle. Spray on smelly areas! Shake well before each use.
I'd get some Arm & Hammer Pet Smart. It works very well for me.
sorry pet lovers, but this is why I dont have a dog..
