Whats the best way to get the cat/dog pee smell out of my carpet?

Question:Also how can I keep my pets from doing it in the future? (other then keeping them outside all the time) I let them out at night.

Answers:
You will need to use an enzyme dissolving product such as Nature's Miracle, available at places like Petco and Petsmart. You will need the one specifically made for cats to remove cat urine, the regular for dog urine. Follow the directions on the package otherwise it will not be effective.

To have your pets properly trained, you must be vigilant and treat the dog when he potties where he is supposed to and watch for his subtle signals. With the cat, it is a must to keep a clean litter box accessible at all times. Some cats will develop health conditions such as diabetes and then they will pee on everything. Perhaps a visit to the vet is in order. Never punish your pet for doing what it does naturally, just patience and training for the right place is what is needed. Also, all responsible pet owners spay and neuter, always.

Good luck.

When you have to go the bathroom , urinate over the spot that the dog/cat has used this way you can cover it up with your piss smell...
try using baking soda and being more firm with your pets
make them go every hour, get them fixed, use natures miracle, i think thats pets smart or petco..expensive but works...carpet cleaners use alcohol...shouldn't take color out of carpet either. I spent $500 on carpet cleaning on $3000 worth of carpeting, I got him fixed. never did it again.
"Urine Gone" or "Febreze" (preferably antibacterial) are well known and get the smell out. Mixing Baking Soda in Hydrogen Peroxide and pouring on a stinky spot is supposed to be good against smells (like skunk spray on your pet, but keep away from mucus areas, like eyes nose mouth and other openings) though I don't know how the color of the carpet will hold up.

My favorite was found at a pet store. It not only removes the stain & smell, but it also has a phermone to repel the pet. Look for a product that promises these things. Hopefully, someone still produces it.
just short of ripping up your carpet, and having wood floors.(i'm not be harsh) when you find it (the pee spot) bring your dog (cats should be all about the litter box - and it needs to be cleaned often, they won't go in a stinky mess - go figure) put their nose in it - say no, smack their fanny and take them to the door you want them to go to when they need to relieve themselves and you need to pay attention to it when they do. good luck to you.
For the smell , pour baking soda on the smell .let it sit a while. as far as the prevention.squirt gun or spray some vinegar in the area.
getting that smell out is impossable, you may be able to lessen it or mask it with carpet deoderant or fabreeze. to keep them from peeing on the carpet put them in a kennel at night and be sure to take them out first thing in the morning to go to the bathroom, if you take them out frequently they will get accustomed to going outside not inside and will preferr that.
i can answer the second question only:
first a dog need months to learn how to pee in the dirt so u better get ready if u have a dog
second a cat may need a day to learn how to pee in the dirt.
hold ur cat and put her in a spacial dirt for cats and make it stand there AFTER she pee on the floor so it can recognize her fault then hour after hour it will learn
trust me that's how i taught my cat Jazz
best bet is too shampoo the carpet and then later on when the carpet is dry i like to use pet fresh its in a yellowish orange box you just sprinkle it into the carpet and let it sit 30 mins then vacumn it out. also you have to constantly watch the dogs and automatically pick up the pee with a paper towel as much as you can and then spray with a pet carpet cleaner. also if you have the time you might want to take your dog out and if she pees reward her with a treat also take their water up an hour before you let them inside. Its been helping me to take their water up around 7:30 and I let them in at 8:30
Chem-Dry is the best. Call 1888-878-3379 and they will send a certified technician to your home to provide you with a free pet urine analysis. They use a solution called PURT-Pet Urine Removal Treatment. I kid you not.it works! For more info go to www.chemdry.com. or your local Home Depot. Spread the word!
You have to lift up the carpet and underpad. Clean the floor or sub-floor and then seal the floor where the urine stain is.
