What is the best way to control dust in your home?

Question:It seems like I am constantly dusting and no matter what I do, the dust bunnies just keep on multiplying. What cleaning strategies do you have to keep your home dust free (such as air filters, ionic breeze etc??)

Answers:
I live in a very dusty area and have to change the air filters a lot more often than normally recommended. I've also found that the pleated type filter works better. I change mine about every 15-21 days.

Never use a feather duster. They just move the dust from one place to another. A slightly damp rag will pick the dust up. I don't use furniture polish unless the furniture begins to look dull, as it seems to attract dust.

If you live someplace that is prone to sand storms make sure you clean your windows and screens regularly, and even then keep the open windows to a minimum.

Make sure your dryer vent is connected properly. If lint from the dryer is escaping it can be a nightmare to try to keep a clean house. The same goes for any ductwork in the attic. If a duct comes loose you could be getting dust from the attic into the house.

Pets carry a lot of dust as well. Brushing your pets daily and bathing them regularly will help, as well as washing their bedding on bath day.

Good luck with your dust bunnies!

combo of dusting, opening windows, and vaccuming
Air filters work but dust is only stoppable if you put electrostatic repellant devices to project across EVERY opening in your house-and this could cost you thousands of dollars! Calm down, instead. A little dust never hurt anything. Just make sure when you dustmop or wipe surfaces that you use a hint of moisture(vinegarand water for floors, pledge or windex for surfaces) so you aren't just stirring dust into the air that will later settle right back where it was.
In my parents home, with a natural gas furnace, had a filter put on as an attachment.
In my apt. keep door closed unless screen door, and screens on the windows.
Use furniture polish when dusting, or a damp, wrung out well cloth to wipe down the surfaces, and vacuum after. pledge is pretty good polish-and it helps keep the dust level down.
Remember, part of dust is not only the dirt from outside, it's dead skin cells that flake off our bodies daily.
Take care.
Just plan on dusting and or vacuuming daily.
