I'd like to know what the best way to clean leather is.?
Question:I bought a leather tan bag and yesterday used it for the first time. I was wearing blue jeans and unfortunately the blue has stained tha leather. How do I get rid of this. I dont necessarily want to use a particular product, just if soap and water on a soft cloth is enough or if I should do something else.
Answers:
You have dye transfer on your leather. You will need a special strong cleaner to remove this depending on what type of leather you have. If it is a sensitive leather and one that absorbs water readilythe dye tranfer is probably permanent and anyhting you try will damage the leather or the colour.
On handbags it is vital to use a good leather protector which will help inhibit this type of probelm and make your leather last longer.
Handbag kits are available for this.
Leather cleaner at any store to clean. Re-condition with saddle soap.
There is a product called "saddle soap" that is used to clean leather. You rub it in making little circles to get it worked into the leather grain, then wipe off with a damp rag. It could alter the color so read the label closely. Good luck.
If after cleaning and using saddle soap you still have a stain you can purchase a shoe dye and re-dye the purse or take it to a shoe repair and they will do it for you.
apparently the jeans have transfered a dye onto the leather bag, take the bag into any drycleaners to send to the leather place for special cleaning, don't try household cleaners on this you may set the stain more.
