Trouble with All Free and Clear making clothes stiff?
Question:All free and clear works well for my daughter's sensitive skin, but our clothing and towels come out so stiff! It feels like they've been hung outside on a clothesline. I don't want to use fabric softener b/c I am afraid it will irritate my daughter's skin. Any advice on how to get the clothes soft and keep my baby's skin nice?
Answers:
Baking soda softens the water. I use all free and clear as well and I dont have problems with it. Maybe your drying them on too high a setting? Try a lower heat setting on your dryer. This may make a difference.
Cant u soften your water? With the solution or a water softener? I have very sensitive skin and this doesnt bother me, but neither does fabric softner of a mild scent. U could also try a dif laundry detergent brand I know many make a free and clear solution
Reduce the amount of detergent you use by at least half (1/4 of normal amount is best). Then use 1 cup vinegar in the wash as well as 1/2 to 1 cup baking soda. My clothes come out very clean even if I skip the detergent. But if you choose to use it, the vinegar and baking soda make it more efficient so that you can use less detergent.
I do this and do not have a problem with crispy clothes...we are 'all natural' here.
Half a cup of white vinegar IN THE RINSE cycle, NOT in wash cycle.
Here is a link to a great eco-friendly household supply company. I use their Seventh-generation products, and they are fabulous!!
