What do you do about mildewed or moldy books?
Question:
Answers:
This is the way what professional restorers use: as the mold and others need a shock, the restorers put the books and other papers into a freezer for some time (minimally two weeks but you can keep there for years). After this time you can remove the books and very carefully expose them to sun. Do not forget that sun rays can damage the paper (get yellow), so you must be always ready to turn page after page, when it is defrost and dry. For obvious books it is a long way, but for those archival.it is the best!
Put them in the sunlight , the sun kills off mold and mildew. Then wipe with a cold water sponge, leave to dry in the sun
It might kill it for awhile but old mold has the wonderful ability to attract new mold. Get some TSP and dilute it in water. You can also add a very tiny amount of bleach. Wipe the books down with this solution. It kills mold and mildew and also helps neutralize the smell.
