How can i get rid of old-metal-jewelry-smell?
Question:I bought this necklace from H&M just last summer and it's been in a box in my closet since then. I pulled it out and it smells really bad, like rotten pennies, and the smell rubbed off on my hands. what causes that? and is there a way to get rid of the smell without ruining my necklace?
Answers:
What you are smelling is probably oxidation. At Walmart in the jewelry section they have jewelry cleaning cloths for about $4. Get one and follow the directions, rubbing off the oxidation and polishing it at the same time. I don't know what H&M is, but it sounds like your necklace is made of "mystery metal" rather than silver or gold. I'd stay away from the liquid jewelry cleaners.
clean it with lots of jewelry cleaner you can find it in any jewelry store
Probably that the salt in your sweat is degrading your necklace. Wash it with soap or lemon juice. And rinse completely dry it with your towel. And keep it clean and dry.
