How do i clean a gold ring thats over 50 years old?

Question:I recently found my grandmothers 14kt gold wedding band that hasn't been worn for atleast 30 years. It looked almost copper when i found it and i cleaned it about 3 times with jewelry cleaner now it finally looks gold. But it still has some dark stains on it...what can do to get the stains out? i really dont want to pay alot to have it cleaned.

Answers:
In a foil tub (like from the take away) put some water softener and some salt about a tablespoon of each. Add boiling water and let ring soak for 5 mins. Rinse and it will be like new.

use MOTHERS...it works great on metal
I would bring it to a pro.
There are 3 stages of Jewelers Rouge. If You used the white rouge, then you should try the green. If really badly stained, you may need to use the brown. My guess is that you should be able to get it clean with the green. Also you will need to use the white after the green to make it shine.
a soft bristled toothbrush and some warm soapy water.
put a line of foil in the sink place the ring on it pour hot water and some carb soda in the sink let it soak for about 10 minutes it is safe for jewlery also jewlery with stones, this works for tarnished silver also.
use ammonia and a soft old toothbrush! It's cheap and easy and it works! Just let it soak a while then brush the stains away and rinse well. If your afraid it will harm your ring, dilute the ammonia with and equal amount of water.
