Make a checklist of things you will do each day, and things you will do once a week. E.g. Everyday, I am going to:
1) make bed
2) put dirty clothes in a hamper
3) put clean clothes away
etc.
Every week, I will
1) dust
2) vacuum
3) wash dirty clothes
It really helps if you can organize your things, too which may mean a couple of things. You may have to really go through your things and get rid of some stuff (make three piles: keep, throw away, donate). Start with one corner of your room, get that corner all clean, then move to the next corner. The other way I sometimes attack the accumulated junk is to pile it all on my bed and use that as a "staging platform" for the cleanup. I do this because then in order to sleep, it all has to be cleaned up.
Find a place for everything in your room -- use containers to keep things from accumulating into piles. Take old shoe boxes, for example, and label them with the types of items (you know, categorize your stuff). Or go buy some cheap plastic storage containers for this purpose.
The idea is to break down the tasks into do-able chunks, and then also learn to discipline yourself to do the things each day that you have to.
When I clean stuff, I turn my iPod on to Shuffle Songs, and this is motivation for me to take some time to clean. Also, reward yourself for the tasks that you finish each day and each week (like letting yourself watch a show, or some other treat that makes you happy).
Okay - I am 39 and I really don't keep my house all that clean and it makes my husband kind of angry. I can do this, too, and I know how, but I know my biggest problem is just having TOO MUCH STUFF. If this is like you, too, the best thing you can do is get rid of things. Have a garage sale to sell some of your stuff, and then use the money to get yourself something you have wanted.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
Pick up after yourself after everything you do... Put clothes back in closet or drawers after changing. Always be diligent in putting things away after using them... This will dramatically help so you aren't cleaning a giant mess. Then when it's time to do a thorough clean, it's not that bad after all... I've been there before, now get busy and clean. ;-)
I think when you say "clean" you mean "orderly". Usually "orderly" means you have things thrown around in there. What you probably need are some under-the-bed drawers, maybe a dresser, maybe a trunk, maybe a stool of sorts, all which have lids on them where you could just dump your junk in to make the room look orderly. If you can keep it nice, then even a bookshelf or entertainment center would work in addition to the above suggestions, but it depends on how large your room is.
When a person is unorganized they have either not been strict with themself to be orderly, or what they own is in too many different directions such as too many different hobbies or projects they are working on...and that's ok, you just need some colored boxes or drawers or file folders to put things in..and then train yourself that whatever you had in your hand when you plan to walk away from it or out of the room, then you put it into a folder or into a drawer or hang it up in a closet. yeah, it's matter of training, keep at it.
I admire you for trying. It's impossible to keep it cleaned all the time, just like the rest of the house. Homes are meant to be lived in. It sounds like you're making a great effort and hope your folks let you redecorate.
She says: Take everything that is not used on a daily basis, and box it up with a marker on the outside write what is in it, Then put it up in the top of the closet.
Make sure you get rid of everything that you do not use as it is only clutter.
take all out of the room and then clean it, top to bottom.
Then put in the room only what you need.
It will stay clean and look super, each day put away what is used and wipe, dust and vacuum.
It will stay clean then.
He says: Throw all of it away or put it away. Then redecorate with what you have available.
