How do you clean a white down comforter?
Question:It's old, and I'm not sure I want to pay to have it dry cleaned. Is there any chance it could survive washing and drying?

Come on now. Think about it. Down comes from ducks and geese and they live in water. You can absolutely throw that thing in the washer and you will want to tumble dry it so it will be all fluffy and wonderful when it comes out. I always wash and dry mine and have for years.
You can absolutely wash a down comforter in the washing machine, I do it all the time.
You can use dryel on it, or take it to the cleaners.
They are both effective, but the dryel is much less expensive.
I have allergies to mold and they are very difficult to dry. Also they tend to tear.
spot clean with mild soap and water, its the only thing you can do, besides dry cleaning. otherwise, the feathers get moldy. dont try to put it in the washer, it will get ruined!!
take it to a proffesional cleaner if it really means something to you. Washed mine and it was NEVER the same* If you don't really care take it to a laundromat, use the front end loader machine..dry on med heat. good luck!
I washed mine and it came out fine - but it isn't old. I did it in cold on gentle cycle, then on the lowest temp in the big laundromat dryer. I checked it frequently and took it out before it was totally dry because I heard somewhere that they are easily scorched.
FYI when it is damp, it smells AWFUL but that smell does go away when the feathers dry out :) Good luck!
If it is old, I would say the washing is worth a try. If you would be disappointed if it didn't turn out well, better go for dry cleaning. The great thing is it could be bleached since it's white.
i washed mine and its fine and it not old
I've put my down pillows and mattress pad in the dryer dozens of times. Just make sure it's completely dry
before you take it out and I wouldn't use fabric softener.
