Got my Carpet Cleaned by Macy's; They Ruined it; Help?

Question:Im from New Jersey.

I got my carpet cleaned Saturday by macy's they pulled up in a USI at home truck.

They use this stuff called host; It looked good but when they left I noticed residue and called them up, They came back out monday and still this host stuff is still in my carpet; They say its not harmful but Im not sure; I have little ones.

Today they came back and steemed cleaned it; Now my carpet has brown stains in it; Im thinking they over wet my carpet and ruined it; I called them this evening and said they wont replace my carpet but will give me a free cleaning plus $100.

What can I do?

I wont recommend them to anyone; I should of used stanley steemer.

Did the agreement you signed say anything about liability? If not, you are out of luck. If it did, it probably wasn't much either, because they could say it was something under the carpet that came up when they cleaned it. I had Stanley Steamer come out a few weeks ago, now my carpet smells funky. They had come out a second time and said it was supposed to smell like that because it is the deodorizer. I don't think so! No recourse, I'll be putting down hardwood when I get my tax refund... Good luck to you!

I am sorry for your experience. It's when you think a reputable name will do a good job that is not fun when it doesn't work that way.
Please, contact the supervisor of the dept. that scheduled your carpet cleaning.Have him/her come see the damage done. Get in writing what they will do to repair/replace the damaged carpet.
If that doesn't work, then please consider calling the Better Business Bureau. See what they have to say, or better than that, call your local news media. Example: Do you have a local news station, with consumer reporters, that can/will help with problems like yours? Contact them asap, explain your situation, and ask for their help in getting this properly resolved. If need be, be willing to take pictures of the damages to the carpet (don't try to exaggerate the problem), and be prepared to possibly take them to small claims court, to pay for the replacement of your carpet. Document everything-all the times of contact with this company, dates, times, who you have spoken with each time, etc. The contract you signed (agreement) when getting the carpet cleaned-what all does it say-even in the fine print? Maybe consult with an attorney as to the procedure of this court matter.
I wish you the best. Take care.
buy new carpet, the chemicals they use are no good for the kids, look it up on line.

new carpet has chemicals in it too, but at liest it will be clean, carpet cleaning only cleans the surface ! Pick up the carpet if you dont believe me, there will be dirt and now mud caked under it, specially in high trafic areas.
The brown stains are probably from high PH in the solution they used. In the carpet cleaning orld its called "brown out." Call Stanley Steemer, ask for a free quote and see if Macy's will cover the cost.
