How do I get rid of mold that has formed on a bathing suit after a week?
Question:I went to a water park a week ago, and havent washed it since. It's been in my closet, which is dark and room temp. And when I went to hand wash it, I found black "pebble" like things inside the bathing suit where there are no openings so I assume its mold. I cant bleach it or else I'll ruin it. Any ideas?
Answers:
soak it in a gallon of warm water with 1cup vinegar and 1/4 cup clothes detergent for 1 hour. rinse thoroughly with warm water then run through the hot/warm or hot/cold wash cycle in the washer with 1/4 cup detergent and 1/4 cup vinegar.
before you dry it, make sure there is no mold left. if the mold is still there, you can try the process again. don't dry it until you're sure there is no mold!
if you can't get rid of the mold, you need to get rid of the bathing suit. if you wear a moldy bathing suit, you can get all sorts of skin infections and irritations esp in the genital area. that is not worth the $$ you spent on a cute bathing suit!!
you take water and soap
Mildew Removal from Swimsuit
You should be able to get the mildew stains out of your swimsuit by soaking it in warm soapy water and borax. Or, combine 1/4 teaspoon of color safe bleach and 1/4 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide. With a clean cloth, gently rub the stain until it is gone. Launder the garment, and dry in the sun if possible.=)
eww...I hate to say it but I would throw it out. Bleach is the only thing that will kill the bacteria...sorry!
i would strongly suggest throwing it away!!
