I would use carpet dry cleaning agents and vacuum thoroughly after. Make sure it is dry before using.
Clorox spray bleach and a warm rag work well.
When I bought mine, they told me that I should vacuum the top every time I changed the sheets. Wipe up small spills and stains as soon as possible using a gentle detergent and warm water on a cloth. If there is a spill/stain, remember to BLOT, don't scrub and rub.
