What is the safest carpet cleaning detergent to use for a baby in the house?
Question:I need to have my carpets cleaned and I need to know what the safest detergent to use with a 5 month old in the house. Thank you!

Not all cleaning agents are created equal. Just because the grocery store puts it on the shelves, doesn't make it safe for everybody in the world.
Dry cleaning agents do NOT use detergents, they are mostly solvent based. Try to avoid dry cleaning solvents around you child. Citrus items are also a bad idea if you have a "sensitive" child. D'Limonene is not a "green" chemical. Ever stopped to wonder why worms will eat into apples but not oranges ... that's why.
If you really don't want any potentially toxic products in your home, you should look for a product that is Green Seal approved and doesn't contain any butyl cellusolve.
We use a line of products called "Axiom" which is manufactured by a company called Prochem. You should really call a professional carpet cleaner. Ask to see the bottle before they do the cleaning. If it is green seal approved, there will be a logo on the bottle.
Any product make for household use will be fine once dry. Household products must meet safety standards that includes children.
I have a one year old son that has grown up with allergies, brocolitites, and sensitive skin and a five year old daughter who don't understand no food on the carpet. I have use a couple different products and found that Dirt Devil carpet and rug shampoo( also upholstery) works really well on all carpets and heavy soil areas. It has an allergen controller does not leave an over whelming smell yet a smell of clean and can be used in any shampooer. I has no effect on my sons health and works great. I get i tat Meijers or Walmart for about $10.00 and it lasts about 8 to tan large rooms.
A citrus cleaner is safe as dry cleaning uses to many detergents, if you want to spot clean use bi carb soda and white vinegar for any stains, although not good for dark carpet.
