How to get the New clothing fuel smell out? Tried Vinegar, Oxyclean, Regular Detergent. 5X and still there.?
Question:This is the second time I have bought new clothing for my toddler from two different stores, with that fuel like perservative smell that will not come out. If I would of noticed it before washing it I would have taken them back to the store, its disgusting. Any suggestions?
Answers:
I think that I would call the store where you bought them and tell them your dilemma, I have bought towels that smell that way and I hate it.It is almost a creosote smell. Sometimes the smell just will not go away.
See if they will take them back. Have you tried washing with a liquid fabric softener? I know with a baby it can be difficult to use harsh soaps and such, try baking soda with warm water and let soak for a while. Then wash as usual.
Good luck.
First hang them outside unwashed, the fresh air will rid the smell. Then iron them unwashed.
