I have had a Sears Whispertone for 11 years. I paid $260.00 for it back then and noticed they are still that price today. I have area rugs and hardwood floors. It is a wonderful vacuum!
I have a 12 amp bissell with hose attachment and it does wonders. I only paid like 60.00 for it at wal-mart and it is great for hardwood floors, carpet, couches etc. It does require a bag but for the price it's a bargain. Good Luck
I own a Miele Callisto S5280 Vacuum Cleaner. It is the nicest vacuum cleaner around. I got this vacuum from Mr. Vac and Mrs. Sew for only $699 (after calling up) ($799 everywhere on the internet) and they handled everything professionally. A little expensive but it is made to last 20 to 25 years and I think it is definately worth it.
