Best way to clean window screens?
Question:What's the best way to clean a window screen?
I would just take it off and spray it with a hose, but we're renting and don't have one.
Thanks!
Answers:
Use a vacuum cleaning hose to vacuum away the dirt...=)
best way to clean window is by newspaper
No hose, what a pain in the rear end that would be.
What you'll need is:
1: dust pan broom
2: bucket of warm water
3: dish washing liquid
4: dry cloth *I prefer to use old Cloth Nappies*
5: your shower *garden hose is recommended*
mix half a tsp of dish washing liquid in your standard size bucket of water,
saturate your dust pan broom with the warm soapy water and brush down your screens,
rinse off with your garden hose/shower
then dry off with your cloth...
For your windows use soapy water as mentioned above,
rinse then wipe over with metho although it is quite potent on your nose, it sparkles like magic!
I have trouble removing the screens from my windows (and I live on the 11th floor of my building), so I take a cleaning rag (an old tea towel) and dip it in a mixture of very warm water and dish-washing liquid. Then I simply wipe the screen from side to side, and then top to bottom. The cloth will be filthy (you will be surprised at how dirty it will be), so rinse it well (but not in the soapy water; use different water for rinsing), and then do it again. You might get some splatter, or some of the dirt particles might blow from the window and possibly onto the floor, so be aware of those extra little cleaning jobs.
Apart from removing the screens and soaking them in a tub, or using a hose, this method usually works very well for me.
It doesn't have to be all that complicated. There are still many things you can do, but I would try to find a spigot close by and barrow a hose, if you can. Oh. You can get hoses for as little as $10.
Ideas:
Remove the screens and using a detachable shower head, spray them down in the bath tub. Spray from the inside of the screen to the side that faces the outdoors. You don't need soap and rags unless it's been forever since they've been cleaned.
If you have access to an air compressor, you can clean them with compressed air.
Using a shop vac can also be a good way to get a majority of the debris off.
Then take them off and go to a car wash an do them.
