How do I clean a very burnt pan?

Question:HELP! I've just managed to burn the bottom of my favourite stainless steel pan because I forgot about the eggs I was hard boiling. Its now very black inside! Whats the best way to get all the black bits off so I don't have to throw the pan?

Answers:
Buy a wire scourer that's what i used and soak while the pan is wet rub some washing powder mixed into a paste and leave for a while then get the scourer on it!!!

our cola into it leave for a bit then rub it with scrunched up tin foil
Try gently boiling a bit of bio washing powder in it for a few minutes, scrape off what you can then use a stainless steel scouring pad for the rest. It will be fine!
Switch to cast Iron ....I know ...my girlfriend hates it too , but that is all I allow to be used in the house ...she cooks in them , I clean them ,and grease them , beats the h*ll out of stainless , and Teflon coated garbage , they old school method is ,and always will be better , just like paper bags being better than plastic ...

I know this because , I am just an old fart with too much time on his hands ..
i usually leave it to soak with some washing powder in the water. after about 6 hours let the pan simmer on the hob for about 20 mins then give it a good wash. after its cleaned up wash it again normally to get rid of any washing powder residues
give vinegar a try-just let it soak in hot water
Slice a lemon into half a pan of water, bring to boil and simmer gently for 20 minutes
Pour a little ammonia into the pan and seal it in a plastic bag for a day or so, then clean as normal.
Firstly remove as much of the burnt food as possible.

If it is only slightly burnt on the bottom, put some water into the pan and add quite a lot of salt, soak for an hour, then wash in the usual way.

If it is badly burnt, put some water into the pan, add salt, bring to the boil and leave to soak for about twelve hours, bring to the boil again. The debris should wipe off. If this is not the case add more salt and bring to the boil again.

Add hot water to the pan with a used fabric softener sheet from your laundry. Let soak and the burnt crust will lift right off.
try a little washing powder in it with some water and boil it for a few mins then use a normal pan scourer, or, pour some cola in and leave it over night the wash in warm soapy water with a pan scourer
Boil water (with salt may help) in the pan then let it sit for several hours. Gently scrape the pan with a plastic spatula, preferable one with an edge. You can find something like this in a hardware store; you don't want to use a typical kitchen one. You do not want to scratch the bottom of the pan which you will do if you use brillo or a metal spatula. If after scraping gently some material remains, repeat the process.
There are a few ways. Put some water in the pan, along with a teaspoon or two of salt. let it heat and boil for a few minutes. Another way is to lightly scrub with moistened bi-carb soda then wash normally. A new hint on TV recently was to let pan stand with hot water in it with 2 soluble aspirin. Let sit for half hour, then wash.
boil water and then squeeze half lemon in it and then pour water on that pan and put the pan in that water for 10 minutes and then take it out and wash ur pan normaly...
Had the same thing happen to me and got the best answer here. Fill the pan to about half full of water and dump about 1/2 cup salt in it. Boil for about 10 minutes remove from the heat and allow to cool. You should be able to scrape most of the black stuff off with a plastic scraper. You may have to repeat the process a couple of times. Once you have removed most of the black stuff you can use baking soda or more salt as scouring powder and scrub the heck out of the pan. It worked for me and my daughter burnt Mac and Cheese.
Go and buy some Soda Crystals.Tesco's sell it for about 56p in the washing powder section.Put a couple of heaped tablespoons in with hot water and leave for a few hours.
Go out and enjoy yourself, and when you get back just pour out and using a pan scrub go over bottom of pan.It should come off easily, if it already hasn't come off.
I've done this several times and it has always worked.I have never got rid of a pan!
Spray it with that new Fairy Power, leave for a while and rinse off,you might have to do it twice but it realy works.
Pour in some Fabric softner and hot water and leave overnight then scrub with Baking soda and White Vinegar it will come clean, or you can use a dryer sheet in place of the fabric softner works just the same. Good Luck !
Put peices of lemon, slightly squeezed, salt and club soda in it. Let it sit for about a half hour. Start wiping it down a cloth or sponge.
Best way of cleaning burnt pot´s and pans ,is to add enough warm water to cover the burn stains. now add a tablespoon or 2 of baking powder/ soda. Leave for 10 min´s and the stains will lift off. Once the stains have been lifted out, was with washing up liquid
salt ! pour cooking or table salt in to the pan to cover the burnt add just enough water to make a paste of the salt leave for a while then scrub with the scourer side of a washing up sponge. It does need a bit of effort and may need a couple of changes of salt This should get most if not all the burnt off . My friend boiled her potatoes dry and she thought the pan was only fit for the bin until I try-ed this trick on it.
Heat up some cola then scrub.
bleach
pour a can of coke into it not diet and boil gently this will loosen black stuff then wash up as normal.
