I want to wash one of my daughter's shirts but I am afraid the red trim will bleed.?

Question:She spilled cold water on it yesterday and it already bled a little onto the white. Is there a special way I have to wash it?

Answers:
Put it in the sink to avoid bleeding onto the other clothes. Use color safe bleech and maybe semi cold/warm water.
Hope this helps

Try washing it in cold water with a little salt in the water. I have never personally tried this, but a good friend of mine who is a housekeeper told me this trick.
Wash it with vinegar.
Dry cleaning. If the color on the red trim is that unstable, water isn't a good idea. For the white with the red bleed, OxyClean on that spot only..or point it out to the dry cleaner.

I'll bet even cold water hand wash with mild detergent causes some color bleed...ARGH!
Oh, I wish I could remember better what these are called... They make these little sheets you can toss into the washer with your clothes and it soaks up all of the dye that bleeds. It goes in white and comes out dark blue or red. I think they are made by Cheer detergent. they are right in the same section as dryer sheets and the pretreaters. I have used them, and they really do work great for bleeding fabrics. Good luck!
to avoid bleeding of the red, wash it in old water. hope I helped, Walter C.
I agree with Audi about putting the salt in the water, not sure on the amount so I put about a tbsp. into a sink full of cold water and mild detergent. It works on my kids clothes! Good Luck !
Someone mentioned the sheets that go into the washer with your clothes, and they absorb the dyes that bleed into the water. I used to have one that was reusable, but it seems easier to find the disposable ones. Look for something like "Dye Grabber." I think Carbona makes them, and possibly other brands, too.
SHOUT! Makes the color-catcher sheets. Here is a review at eoinions: http://www.epinions.com/content_13682275...

I'd wash the shirt by itself, with the color catcher sheet in COLD water. I probably wouldn't even add detergent for the first wash, just plain cold water. As for your little spot, try the Clorox Bleach Pen.

Good luck :)
wash it in cold water.
Add about 1/8 of a cup of plain vinegar to cold water before putting the shirt in. Remove shirt right after the washing machine is finished. If this does not help return the shirt to wherever you bought it.
