Matted down rug?

Question:how can i refresh a nice space rug thats matted down with heavy traffic?

Answers:
Get a carpet cleaner and clean it until water is clear. At the very last cleaning, use fabric softener and water only.
Get a rubber tipped broom to fluff it out and dry it in the shade.

Shampoo it or wash it in the washing machine
Wet it down. As the fibers absorb the water, they will plump up a little. Use your hand or a stiff brush to fluff up the fibers. Once it's dry, vacuum. Repeat if needed.
Instead of wasting all your time getting the carpeting wet, just put an ice cube in the matted down spot. It might take a couple of them for a larger area. When the ice has melted then you can plump up the fibers with very little work.
